Overview

The Educative Technical Writing Workshop is meant to be a collaborative writing experience in which you, the author, work with our review team to produce your best work. In this lesson, we will go over what to expect during this workshop.

Topic selection

One of the scariest parts of writing is getting started. Sometimes, even thinking about what you want to write can be overwhelming. At Educative, we want to curb any stress that may surround the writing process. So, we strongly encourage you to write on a topic from our Trello board.

Educative Answers is a curated site that only publishes one Answer per topic, meaning we only publish articles on new topics that are not yet published on Educative Answers.

Therefore, each topic present on our Trello board has been hand-picked by the Educative Answers team, so you can be assured that your topic is unique and not yet present on our site.

How to use the Trello board

The Trello board has 3 columns:

  • Can be claimed: This column contains topics that are available to write on.

  • Claimed: The topics in this column have already been claimed and cannot be written on.

  • FAQ links: This column contains resources to help you write your article and use Educative Answers, such as these guidelines!

There are 3 steps to using the Trello board:

  1. Pick a topic from the column “Can be claimed.” Here you will find all the available topics for this workshop.

  1. Move the card to the claimed column by clicking on “move” and selecting the “Claimed” column. Once a card is moved to the “Claimed” column, it is no longer available for anyone to pick.

What happens after you submit your Answer?

  1. The first step in the review process is to check every Answer for plagiarism. As per the Educative Answers guidelines, we do not accept any content that is not originally owned by the submitter. Any Answer containing over 5% plagiarism will be considered plagiarized. If your Answer contains plagiarism, you will receive an email from an Educative Answers manager outlining the amount of plagiarism found, the sources, and a text match that highlights where the plagiarism is found in your article. You will be given an opportunity to rephrase and re-submit.

  2. Once you submit your Answer and it has been checked for plagiarism, your article will be sent to our review team. It will undergo a content review and a proofreading review.

    • A content review means that your Answer will be checked by our technical content engineers for technical accuracy and correctness.

    • A proofreading review means that our proofreading team will edit your Answer for grammatical errors, clarity, sentence structure, and design layout.

  3. Between November 22nd-November 28th. You will receive an email containing your first review document. It is important to note that as a part of the review process, participants are expected to engage with the edits sent to them. This means that if you disagree with the review, you may refute them by providing logical reasons as to why you disagree. Otherwise, you are expected to make the changes outlined in your review document.

  4. Your second draft is due December 2nd with all the edits incorporated.

  5. If further edits are needed or if all the edits have not been incorporated, you will receive another email by December 7th outlining these edits.

  6. Final submissions are due December 12th.

If you do not make the changes outlined in your review document before the final deadline on December 12th your Answer will not be published and you will be disqualified from the workshop.

  1. On December 16th the Educative Answers team will publish all articles.

  2. The winners will be announced on December 28th.
