Bitcoin Mining

Bitcoin mining is a process that is essentially a cryptographic ‘proof-of-work’ demonstrating that a large amount of computational effort has been applied to perform a task deemed cryptographically ‘hard.’ The need to conduct mining lies at the very heart of Bitcoin. It is a carefully engineered process designed to be difficult to conduct, yet whose level of difficulty can be tightly controlled.
