Introduction

We are now ready to tackle two more quantum algorithms, both of which have advantages over the corresponding classical algorithms. We’ll also look at how error correction, a critical component of information science, is handled for quantum communications. We will show too how quantum computing can be used to find energies and shapes of complex molecules—a crucial step in finding new drugs and enhanced materials.

In the following chapter, we will explore the famous Shor factoring algorithm. Because the math behind some of these algorithms is rather advanced, we will provide just enough detail so you will be able to understand the problems being solved and the general flow of the quantum algorithm.
