Meet Alice, Bob, and Cardy

Get introduced to the characters who will communicate quantum computing throughout the course via interactive and thought-provoking discussions.

A nuclear engineer and educator with a strong theoretical background, Alice is very experienced with translating quantum computing and quantum cryptography for high school students and teachers.

An experimental physicist who likes to think about how quantum computers will actually be built and how you can use lasers and microwaves to prepare, manipulate, and analyze quantum states. But Bob also has a philosophical bent: What does quantum computing tell us about fundamental issues in quantum mechanics and information theory? What does it teach us about the fundamental nature of reality?

A first-year university student with a double major in business and English—Cardy wants to know more about quantum computing both because it sounds cool, with many philosophical puzzles, and because it may be the future of the information technology (IT) business world. Cardy hasn’t had physics since high school and math ended with algebra II and trig.
