Chat Models, Messages, and Prompt Templates in LangChain

Chat Models, Messages, and Prompt Templates in LangChain

Learn about the different models in the LangChain framework and how we can effectively query the language model using prompt templates.

We'll cover the following...

LangChain provides a framework for developers to swiftly create LLM-powered applications. It streamlines development by providing easy access to different language models from various providers. This allows developers to quickly experiment, select the best model for their needs, and focus on building application logic, rather than wrestling with different model APIs.

In this lesson, we’ll look into how we can utilize different models in LangChain and efficiently prompt these models to ask queries and get a response accordingly.

Chat Models

A model, or chat model in the context of LangChain, is any LLM that can be used for various language-related tasks. These tasks can range from text generation or summarization to simple question answering or language translation.

  • Line 1: Import the ChatGroq method from the langchain_groq module. This was installed with a pippip install langchain-groq command.

  • Line 3: Initiate the model via the ChatGroq method. We pass it the model name of our choice, which is llama3-8b-8192. Information about the models can be checked from the Groq playground.

  • Line 5: Generate a response from the model using the invoke method. In LangChain, the invoke method is used to ...
