Demo of Elasticsearch and Kibana
Learn how to configure Kibana and get hands-on experience of running Elasticsearch and Kibana on the Educative platform.
Configuring Kibana
On the Educative platform, the servers are run on the host 0.0.0.0
. Therefore, we need to make this configuration for Kibana too.
To configure Kibana, we need to edit its main configuration file kibana.yml
where most of its configuration options are stored. This file is located in the /etc/kibana
directory. As it’s hard to open and edit this file using the shell, especially from the perspective of the learner, we can simply replace the default kibana.yml
file with our customized kibana.yml
file. We can do it in the following ways:

Upload the customized
kibana.yml
file in the tarball (along with the Dockerfile). After installing Kibana, copykibana.yml
file in the/etc/kibana
using the following command in the Dockerfile:COPY kibana.yml /etc/kibana/

Give the
kibana.yml
file in the Single Page App (SPA) widget where we can easily edit it. When we press the “Run” button, the file is copied to the/etc/kibana
directory.
Note: We can follow the same strategies to configure Elasticsearch’s configuration file
elasticsearch.yml
which resides in the/etc/elasticsearch
directory.
Demo
Press the “Run” button to start running Elasticsearch and Kibana. You can click on the URL given against the “Your app can be found at:” field under the widget below to see Elasticsearch and Kibana running on the Educative platform.
Note: Kibana takes around one minute to start. Therefore, you could see “Your app refused to connect.” for a while. Just refresh the page after a while to see the output.
