Introductory Note

Let's get a high-level overview of what network automation is.

We'll cover the following

Overview

Network automation is the transformation of traditionally human performed functions, to an automated engine that is data- and machine-driven. A development framework adhering to a strict System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) delivers a fully automated network configuration management system. Note that network automation does not replace solid network designs or the need to understand basic network concepts. For instance, it does not substitute the knowledge of what a VLAN is, or what a routing protocol does.

Network automation can be a tactical, one-time change across an enterprise- Examples include standardizing the native Network Time Protocol (NTP) server and making sure every network device has a banner displayed at login time.
