Now, we are ready to introduce the first fairness-specific metric: demographic parity. A model satisfies demographic parity if its prediction is statistically independent of the sensitive feature. At first glance, this might sound like fairness through unawareness, but it is entirely different.
Demographic parity says that the prediction rate for all groups should be similar. For example, if we admit 60% of Xenos, we should also admit 60% of Ferros and 60% of humans. Let’s take a look at a formal definition:
