Important VR-Specific Concepts

In this lesson, we’ll look deeper into XR technologies to better decide which line of product best fits our use case. The concepts covered in this chapter are immersion, field of view, degree of freedom, and illusions of VR.

Immersion

Immersion refers to the feeling of being physically present in a virtual environment. Experiencing a 3D virtual environment via a head-mounted display increases our sense of immersion. The more realistic the graphics offered by a headset, the more immersed we feel.

Another important feature is synchronous hand (or controller) and head movement tracking offered by VR headsets. It also positively contributes to the sense of immersion.
