Text Size

Learn the guidelines for choosing and setting text size.

Text is one of the most inherently accessible ways that we can convey information in apps or websites, as well as the primary method for alternative presentations of inaccessible content. When structured semantically, a plaintext website is accessible by default. It’s all the other things we add in as part of the modern development process that can make it inaccessible. For that reason, when we’re thinking about accessible text and links, one of the best things we can do is just stay out of the way.

WCAG text size requirements

16 pixels is the generally recommended size for the body copy, which is convenient because it’s also the default browser font size (1 em). Unfortunately, it’s common to try and get away with smaller sizes in an attempt to squeeze more content on the screen.
