Deno is a simple and secure runtime for JavaScript and TypeScript and it’s on the rise. It has many similarities to Node, but it also has some useful new features such as: security by default, TypeScript by default, ES modules, and improved package management.

If you want to be on the cutting edge of the latest web development technologies then Deno is a good start.

In this mini course, you will first refresh your understanding of TypeScript, as it is extensively used with Deno. You will cover the basic types as well as interfaces and classes.

In the second half of this course, you will learn how to create a CRUD REST API using Deno and Oak. By the end of this course, you can add a great new skill to your resume and you can start experimenting with it in old or new projects.

Creating a CRUD REST API with Deno & Oak

In this course, we learned the basics of TypeScript, and then we built a simple CRUD REST API with Deno and Oak.

You can now use the codebase you learned here and integrate it with a database like MongoDB or PostgreSQL. We would suggest exploring this new runtime and building a few projects with it.

If you had any difficulty with the concepts discussed throughout this course, or if you're just starting out with backend web development, we suggest learning Node.js first because it has a much larger community and is currently more popular than Deno. Node.js and Deno will co-exist, so it's beneficial to learn how to use them both.
