Django is a free and open-source web application framework written in Python. It is used for rapid web development and clean, pragmatic design. It is built by experienced developers to make repetitive tasks easier, so you can focus on writing apps instead of reinventing the wheel. This course teaches Django for beginning and intermediate level learners. The course includes a hands-on learning experience with the help of interactive widgets. At the end of the course, you will have created a project in Django that can be used in your portfolio.

Django: Python Web Development Unleashed

In the last chapter, we learned how to make forms in Django. We made a Signup and Login form for our project, too. But we didn’t store any users since we didn’t have any **User** model. We didn’t create any **User** model because Django already provides a built-in Django `User` model. In this lesson, we will use the same `User` model which Django provides us.

Let’s learn about the steps involved:


# Step 1: Import the `User` model

We don’t need to create a model of our own. We can simply import the `User` model that Django provides us with, which looks like the following:


```
from django.contrib.auth.models import User
```

# Step 2: Create an instance of the `User` model

To create a new user, we simply create an object of the `User` class using the following line:

```
user = User.objects.create_user(username="Ulrich",email="ulrich@gmail.com",password="mac12")
```

In the above example, we have passed `username`, `email`, and `password` as arguments to `User.objects.create_user`. Doing so will create a user object and will store it in the `user`.

> **NOTE:** We can pass `first_name` and `last_name` as arguments to `User.objects.create_user` as well.

# Step 3: Save the `user` object

As we have created a `user` object, we need to save it. We can save the `user` object by using the following:

```
user.save()
```

The `save` function will save the user object to the database.
