Google Maps APIs overview
The Google Maps Platform provides an essential service for viewing interactive and static digital maps. The ability to display maps in applications gives users a better context of the terrain features of an area—helping users see land and bodies of water, the routes between two points, real-time traffic conditions, and more.
The Google Maps API allows users to customize maps with many interactive features. The API allows maps to be stylized with markers, lines, shapes, info windows, and much more. Users can also view high-resolution satellite imagery and 360° street-level panoramas.
Prerequisites
This course requires an intermediate knowledge of HTML and the JavaScript (JS) programming language. A familiarity with Google Maps from a user’s point of view and a basic knowledge of how HTTP requests work are also necessary.
Intended audience
This course is for developers who have some basic experience with APIs and want to start using the Google Maps APIs in their applications. It’s also for those individuals who have interacted with Google Maps and want to learn more about its integration into real-world projects.
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you’ll have everything you need to progress further with the Google Maps APIs. You’ll learn about two of the most used Google Maps APIs—the Maps JavaScript API and the Maps Embed API.
You’ll master the key concepts of Google Maps like drawing, events, controls, and interactions. This course will help you make impressive web applications with unique and interactive maps. You’ll be able to explore the entire API freely (it’s pretty massive), and you’ll have the foundation to build API integrations into your projects.
