Analysis of Variance with Unbalanced Designs

Let’s learn about the details of ANOVA with unbalanced designs.

ANOVA with unbalanced designs

The example used in this lesson comes from (Shaw & Mitchell 1993)Shaw, R.G. & Mitchell-Olds, T. ANOVA for unbalanced data: An overview. Ecology 74 (1993): 1638–45.. The made-up dataset comprises the final height of plants (the imaginary study organisms) as the response variable, the experimental removal (or lack of removal) of neighbors as a first explanatory variable, and the initial size of the target plants as a second. Both explanatory variables are factors, each with two levels. The initial sizes are recorded only as small or large.
