Spoonacular is a food management service that allows us to search for and organize recipes and food products according to our nutritional needs and diet. The Spoonacular API is a solution that allows developers to offer these services on their platforms. The Spoonacular API is a powerful tool that can act as a food search engine, a shopping assistant, a food tracker, or even a meal planner.

Creating a Spoonacular account

To create a Spoonacular account, follow these steps:

Go to the Spoonacular developer home page and click the “START NOW” button.

  1. Enter your email and password, accept the terms of service, and click the “Sign up” button.

  2. After you’ve added your sign-up details, you’ll receive a verification email upon the successful creation of your Spoonacular account.

Acquiring the Spoonacular API key

To acquire the API key for your Spoonacular account, follow these steps:

  1. After verifying your Spoonacular email, go to the Spoonacular API Console page and log in using your Spoonacular credentials.

  2. In the “API Console” sidebar menu, click the “Profile” menu item.

  3. Click the “Show / Hide API key” button to reveal your API key.

  4. Copy and save the “API Key.”

Let’s save the API key for use throughout the course. To do so:

  1. Click the “Edit” button in the following widget.
  2. Paste the API key in the API_KEY field.
  3. Click the “Save” button.

Note: Your API key will automatically be used throughout the course as long as it is saved in the widget.

Upon the successful authentication of your API key, the widget above will display the Spoonacular widget, detailing the ingredients for a crispy chicken burger. In the case of an incorrect API key, the widget above will display the appropriate response.
