Educative’s team is always working to make our platform better for you and to better your learning needs. We get a lot of ideas from users on useful features we should add to our site, and we take them seriously. This past few months, our team has been working on a few highly-requested feature updates, and we’re happy to announce that they are now live!
We want to familiarize you with the features on the Educative site to make sure you get the most out of your time with us. We’ll be discussing the following features and hopefully answer your top questions along the way:

Our most requested feature of the year is finally here: Completion Certificates!
Now, once you complete an Educative course and qualify, you can now get an official certificate. Think of this like official proof that you’ve mastered a particular topic or technology. You can add it to your resume, portfolio, promotion request, and beyond. On Linkedin, you can even add them to your licenses and certifications section using an official credential ID.
It’s quite easy to claim your Educative certificate, and they are provided for almost all of our courses. We spent tons of time making sure that they are easy to access and reflective of the time you spend learning.
It’s essential that your hard work on Educative courses is fully recognized. The hours you spend upskilling are important to your life, career, and the tech industry as a whole. Certificates make it possible to show off your learning in an official way. These are a time-friendly, accessible way to impact your career. We hope they serve to empower your career and learning goals.
We know you likely have some questions about certificates, so we’ve summed up the most frequently asked questions below.
A certificate includes the course name, level of course objective, instructor signature, verification seal, a unique certificate ID, date of issue, and verification URL.
You can access the certificates page from the Educative homepage. This is where you will submit your request for all certificates or claim the ones that you qualify for.
If you’re a member of Educative Unlimited, or if you’ve paid for access to an individual course, you’ll be able to claim a certificate for that course as soon as you complete enough of it and pass all assessments (if a course has any). For free courses, you’ll be asked to pay a one-time fee of $19 to claim a certificate. If you do not meet the criteria the first time around, you can go back to the course and continue working on it.
Any course that is eligible for certificates will state so under the title alongside the estimated completion time to qualify. Once you have qualified for the certificate, it will appear in the Certificates page, accessible from the homepage.
Certificates are a fantastic way to showcase your hard-earned skills to employers, universities, friends, and anyone else that may be interested. They provide tangible proof that you’ve completed a course on Educative. In many cases, they may help you claim a training reimbursement or get university credit for a course.
Certificates are optional. If you choose not to claim a certificate for a course, you will still be able to complete the entirety of the course with no limitations.
Another one of Educative’s new features adds tons of value to your certificates and your overall learning experience: assessments. An assessment is like a formal exam that tests your new skills periodically throughout a course.
While taking an assessment, you cannot go back and view the lessons, so your knowledge is really put to the test. These are highly interactive, including code widgets, true/false questions, challenges, and more. Each assessment begins with a description page that outlines the objectives and concepts you’ll be tested on. This gives you a chance to review before you begin.
These assessments take your learning to the next level with an official exam that closely mimics a university setting. This adds a ton of value to your learning as you are challenged to deeply understand concepts. On top of that, assessment-backed certificates are highly valuable on the market and stand out as the highest quality of self-motivated learning.
We know you likely have some questions about assessments, so we’ve summed up the most frequently asked questions below.
No, assessments are optional. If you prefer not to take an assessment, you can simply skip to the next section. However, if you want to qualify for a certificate, you must pass all assessments.
However, regardless of whether or not you wish to claim a certificate, we recommend attempting all assessments in the courses you’re working through. They’re the best way to ensure you really understand the core concepts.
Yes, you can attempt an assessment up to 3 times every dew days. All of your attempts are listed on the lesson page, so you can track your progress. If you do not pass, you are encouraged to go back and refresh your knowledge for a few days.
How long do assessments take?
Assessments take between 30-50 minutes to compete. Each assessment will outline the duration so you know how much time to set aside. There is a timer that counts down your remaining time as you work. You cannot pause the timer of an assessment once you click “Start Assessment”. You may exit the screen, but the timer will continue to count down. We generally recommend you complete an assessment in one sitting if at all possible.
You have to correctly answer 50% of the questions to pass an exam. The questions are weighted by difficulty, so harder questions are worth more points.
If you do not pass the exam, you cannot see the answers to the questions you missed, but we will direct you to the lessons that cover those concepts so you can review.
With Educative’s new feature, Early Access Courses, you can start learning new Educative courses 2-3 weeks before they are officially launched. You can start on the hottest courses before they get their final touches.
We’ll still be tweaking a few things behind the scenes to get the course fully ready to go live, but this will never impact the actual content of the course, just things like the description, title, and graphics. The content is still ready for eager learners, and now those with Early Access can get started right away.
Early Access adds a lot of value to eager learners who don’t want to wait to learn the newest technologies. It’s the nest way to get the most out of your Educative subscription. You’ll be sure to get new courses every week, and can begin your learning journey when you see fit, not when the course happens to be ready.
We know you likely have some questions about early access courses, so we’ve summed up the most frequently asked questions below.
Early Access Courses are available for annual paid subscribers. Anyone with Educative Unlimited can get started on these courses right away. You can update your account at any time and gain early access.
On the Educative homepage, we list our Early Access courses beneath our Learning Track. Simply click on the “Early Access” tab to see what’s ready.
Of course! You just have to wait until courses are officially launched to start on a new course. Once our course is 100% ready, any Educative user can start learning. If you want to know when new courses are launched, you can subscribe to our emails or check out our blog for regular updates.
Thanks for reading and getting caught up on Educative’s new features! There’s still more to come, so keep you eye out for more updates and changes to our learning platform.
Pretty soon, even the blog will have a revamp to offer a more streamlined, organized reading experience, and we will be launching a blog newsletter in the coming months, so stay tuned!
We’re happy to serve this community of learners around the world, and we truly hope that these new features improve your learning experience and empower you to take your coding skills to the next level, whatever that may be for you.
