Other AWS Services: Part I
Learn the essentials of Amazon DLM, AWS Backup, AWS DataSync, and Health Dashboards.
Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager
Amazon Data Lifecycle Manager (DLM) is used to automate and streamline the creation, retention, and deletion of EBS snapshots and EBS-backed AMIs. It seamlessly integrates with CloudWatch monitoring, alarms, and events, thereby providing a complete backup solution for EC2 instances and independent EBS volumes for no additional cost.
Points to note:
- DLM can’t be used to manage AMIs and snapshots created by any other means.
- DLM can’t be used to automate the creation, retention, or deletion of instance store-backed AMIs.
AWS Backup
AWS Backup is a fully managed service that allows users to automate, consolidate, and manage backup tasks for multiple AWS services, like S3, FSx, EC2, RDS, and more. All backup-related tasks, which previously had to be carried out on a service-by-service basis, can now be centralized.
Points to note:
- AWS Backup doesn’t automatically manage the backups or snapshots taken outside of the
