A resume or profile says a lot about a person. Hiring managers and recruiters I talked to mention that the most important thing a profile or resume on LinkedIn should include is a clear story. It should highlight a powerful headline that acts as our elevator pitch.

Start the headline with a single statement that defines us and is easy for others to remember. Longer statements that explain the bigger story of who we are can be included in an about section. Remember that our LinkedIn activity is included in our profile, so your comments, posts, articles, and other activities can be highlighted in the features section. Recruiters and employers will look at our activity on multiple social networks like LinkedIn, GitHub, and Stack Overflow. Make sure our conversations are constructive, positive, and helpful. 

We should provide a detailed description of what we did in your experience section instead of just a work history. Any measurable impact on the bottom line, like increased visitors, revenues, or downloads, shows business success. It is helpful to include technologies we’re familiar with alongside specifics if we’ve used them on projects.

In the school section, if one has a good GPA, make sure to add it as well as any other educational highlights. The profile is sometimes the first impression we will give a potential employer, so make sure it’s a great one.
