My story is pretty typical. The most common way developers find work is through someone who tells them about the job. Some general recruiters pay to have connections in the industry, but we want to cultivate the right type of connections. Organic connections, which occur as a result of an ongoing relationship, are the best.

Don’t just go up to someone and ask for a job or a reference. Great connections, like relationships, take time to develop.
