When I switched to a programming career, I didn’t know much about the Web or the software world. I did have a good networking and hardware maintenance portfolio, though. So, I joined a local tech meetup and became part of the organizing community.

After I’d been there for a while, someone at the group mentioned that their company was looking for a software developer intern, and that’s how I got my first tech engagement.
