Once we’ve done the work on designing a product that addresses our customers and the market’s major pain points we want to solve with AI, we’re then in a position to start to build out our overarching product strategy. Obviously, our product MVP will start somewhere, but after that, there needs to be a course for our product vision to grow. Remember that completeness of vision was one of the x-axes in the Gartner magic quadrant?

The reason for this is that an addressable market has a variety of needs ranging in complexity. Our product MVP will only solve a small fraction of these needs. Our leadership and company goals will likely not be to solve all the needs of our market, but we will need to work with our leadership team to define what we’re looking to do for our market at large, as this will directly inform our product strategy.

Aligning company roles with product vision

Remember, building a product strategy falls on the PM, but creating company goals falls on leadership, so in many ways, we can consider our leadership team as offering us the crucial outputs (the company goals) we need to build a robust product strategy, vision, and roadmap that aligns with our company’s business objectives.
