Signals Are Everywhere
Discover the big picture view by learning about the signals all around us.
We'll cover the following
The world of signals encompasses almost everything in our universe.
The universe
Since the creation of time, everything that moves generates signals in a never-ending cycle. Some notable examples include:
- The spinning of galaxies, stars, and planets
- The internal chemical activities of celestial bodies
- Heat and storm patterns
- Light and other electromagnetic waves
- Temperature variations
- Ocean currents
It is only by recording the signals generated from these activities and applying DSP algorithms that we have gained so much knowledge about our universe. For example, a 1% change in the amplitude of light coming from a faraway star can indicate the presence of a Jupiter-sized planet in its orbit.
