Multiple paths
In guided media like optical fiber or a coaxial cable, the transmitted signal does not diverge in all three dimensions. On the other hand, a wireless channel is an unguided medium in which a sent signal traces several different paths before it arrives at the receiver through reflection, diffraction, and scattering. An example of signal paths in a wireless channel is shown in the figure below:
