What is cloud automation?

Cloud automation is the process of managing and executing actions across a cloud environment. It is a workflow system that allows us to automate the creation, deployment, and configuration of environments across one or more clouds. Automation can help us transform the way our organization uses the cloud. It can help us further increase agility and efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer experience by ensuring that critical systems are always available and performing at peak levels.

Automation is not a cloud concept as such. We did automate a lot of stuff even before the cloud was conceived. For example, in traditional IT systems, tasks such as creating virtual machines, setting up group policies, managing user identities, setting up workflows for all sorts of things, etc., were all automated.
