What is cloud security?

Cloud security is the practice of protecting cloud computing environments, applications running in the cloud, and their associated data. The cloud service providers and the customers are also liable for the security of their data. It is essential to have a clear understanding of the areas of responsibility. Cloud service providers are generally responsible for protecting their infrastructure and back-end systems against security vulnerabilities, whereas customers are responsible for securing their applications and data in the cloud.

Note: Cloud vendors are responsible for Securing the cloud whereas customers manage security in the cloud.

Shared responsibility varies based on the cloud deployment model we use.

Cloud security framework

We can understand cloud security with the help of a simple framework. Since we are taking a proactive approach to cloud security, we start early by implementing preventative measures to avoid any issues. However, even if we have some loophole or our security posture is not tight enough, we have other steps that can help us along the way to harden the overall security.
