Types of Cloud Deployment Models
Learn about the different types of cloud offerings.
In this lesson, we’ll discuss the various cloud offerings available to us.
Types of cloud deployment models
Cloud platforms have evolved to serve the diverse needs of individuals, businesses, and governments. Cloud vendors offer different types of cloud to cater to the broader customer base. This approach allows cloud vendors to meet customers where ever they are rather than pushing all of them to one model.
Public
Public clouds are owned and operated by third-party cloud service providers who deliver computing resources, such as storage, computing, etc., over the Internet. With this model, cloud service providers can provide a massive capacity of resources to run workloads for many customers in a shared model. We can think of this as a utility provider such as electricity. Consumers get connections over the shared infrastructure. This is the most common cloud offering and the simplest to onboard. Due to the nature of the shared model, it's also the most economical model.
Even though resources are delivered in a shared model, security is ensured. We only see data and resources we have access to. With the help of a shared pool of resources, cloud platforms can optimize their resources to serve many customers rather than selecting a few and, in turn, pass on the benefits of cost saving to consumers.
Platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Compute Platform are prime examples of public clouds.
Private
The private cloud is on the opposite spectrum, where an organization uses all the resources exclusively. It's a dedicated ...
