Introduction

One of the initial uses of cloud technologies was storage. There is a bit of history that we might be interested in, and that is that AWS started with just storage. It was just S3 buckets where we could put some workload, the service AWS created for themselves. And then they thought, the world might want this.

History of storage

We have had a kind of cloud storage for a long time. Way back in the early 90s, an organization set up an environment where we could dial-up with our modem to the service and have our data back to their servers, a kind of telephonic cloud storage of the earlier century. Storage is still available in the cloud, which is a big part of what we do. So we will be talking about storage as we go through this lesson.
