What Is the AWS Console?
Get an overview of the AWS Console and its different sections. Learn about AWS regions and the Billing dashboard.
We'll cover the following...
We have briefly used the AWS console in the previous lessons. Let’s now get into the details to get an idea of the most important features.
Dashboard
Let’s go through the AWS Console home screen or dashboard to understand the different components of it.
On the top, we have:
-
The AWS logo: This will always get us back to this home screen.
-
The “Services” drop-down: If we click on it, we’ll get a long list of all the services AWS offers. We can reach the configuration pages for any of these services through this dropdown.
-
The search bar: We have used this before. The search bar offers an all-in-one functionality to access AWS services, documentation, the marketplace, and more. It can get a bit confusing at first because AWS offers a lot of resources and content.
-
The CloudShell: The CloudShell is a very handy tool if we regularly work with AWS. The CloudShell is a built-in terminal with the AWS CLI preinstalled. During this course, we’ll have access to a terminal within the Educative platform, so we won’t need it. But if you continue to work with AWS afterward, the CloudShell is a very handy tool to quickly run commands. It has our credentials preloaded, so we don’t need to configure anything.
-
Notification: AWS might notify us from time to time about changes to their services.
-
Support drop-down: This is self-explanatory. It provides us with access to AWS customer service, documentation, and training.
