This course is designed to help learners build an understanding of Agile’s process model and its different approaches and techniques.

To understand the advantages of implementing Agile techniques, the course begins with a comparison of Agile methods and the traditional Waterfall model. Then, you’ll get to know about different planning approaches to help users effectively adjust deadlines. Next, there’s a discussion on backlogs and different visual techniques, such as burn-down charts and burn-up charts, that help increase the efficiency of projects.

You will also learn Agile methodologies including SCRUM, eXtreme Programming, DSDM, Smart and Kanban, as well as the differences and similarities between these approaches. Finally, you’ll look at some common problems and learn ways to solve them using Agile methodologies.

Learn Agile Methodologies from Scratch

The problem is that, based on a deadline, the work that needs to be done per iteration is calculated. This leads to the desired speed of the team. It’s not always possible to achieve this speed with a team. We call this **reverse planning**.

A good example from a former colleague: the project manager said, “We still have four sprints. So we’ll now realize fifty points per sprint,” while the team had realized only thirty points per iteration in the past eleven iterations.

Once the project has started, this desired speed will lead to incomprehension. The project manager can’t understand why the team did not achieve the required speed.

>**Note:** To appease the customer of a failing project, the project manager communicated a virtually impossible new schedule. Within five months, 30 transactions from a very old COBOL system would get a web interface. There were six transactions per month. All the while, only five had received a web interface in the past four months.

Reverse planning puts the team under pressure without basing the planning on realistic assumptions. It’s often the wish of the project manager. Avoid these calculations at all times. Base planning on actual historical figures.
