Characteristics of Agile teams
Collaboration in Agile signifies a very different perspective on teams. Much like successful sports teams, Agile teams are more than a collection of individuals with their own expertise.
Ideally, operating Agile teams are characterized as follows:

Multidisciplinary
An Agile team consists of all disciplines and roles needed to realize all work items. Which roles are needed will differ from project to project and organization to organization. A team may, for example, include a COBOL designer, a .NET developer, a COBOL developer, and a tester. Sometimes, multiple roles were performed by one person.

Compact
Without exception, Agile teams are small and compact. Rarely do we encounter a team that’s larger than eight to ten people. Scrum defines the optimal team size as six, plus or minus three people.
