Company size and risk
The technical program manager role isn't always consistent across every company. In fact, in many smaller companies, the role doesn't exist. At least, not yet. As a company grows in size, it grows in complexity. As complexity grows, so does risk.
A technical program manager is usually brought in when scaled execution becomes too much for other roles to handle. Having a technical program manager focus on driving progress, ensuring alignment, creating clarity, and mitigating risk adds immense value to companies as they scale.
