Regions, Special Regions and Region Pair
Get introduced to Azure Regions, Azure Special Regions, and Azure Region Pairs.
Azure region
The term Azure region refers to an area on Earth where at least one, perhaps more, low-latency networked data centers are connected to nearby data centers. Microsoft Azure assigns and manages resources intelligently in each region to ensure workloads.
This means that one or more data centers will be connected to a geographical location called a region. The connection is usually made using a low-latency network cable.
Azure Regions are essential because they protect businesses from total shutdown when there is any issue with the data center where our workload is hosted. An Azure region would have one or more availability zones (availability is just a group of data centers with one or more data centers grouped; this would usually be three), with each data center independent, having its power, cooling, and network facilities. So, having seen what a region is, knowing why we would want to host our workload in a particular area is essential.
