Inspect

• Interview your teams about their use of Scrum. Have them score themselves according to the Scrum scorecard. How effectively are they using Scrum?

• Review the Scrum failure modes in this chapter with your key team members, and identify areas for improvement.

• Review staffing for the Scrum Master role on your teams. Are your Scrum Masters effective at helping your teams execute Scrum practices, including the high-discipline practices associated with Scrum’s failure modes?

Adapt

• Insist that your teams use by-the-book Scrum—unless they can show you a quantitative, measured basis for doing something different. (The “More Effective Agile Process Improvement” chapter goes into more detail about measuring Agile process changes.)

• If your Scrum Masters are not effective, develop them or replace them.
