The Agile Boundary

Understand where the boundary is between the Agile and non-Agile parts of your organization.

Most organizations cannot achieve end-to-end agility. Your organization might not see any benefit from Agile HR or Agile procurement. Even if you commit to Agile for your whole organization, you might find that your customers or your suppliers are less Agile than you are.

It is useful to understand where the boundary is between Agile and non-Agile parts of your organization—both the current boundary and the desired boundary.

If you’re a C-level executive, the area inside the Agile boundary could include your entire organization. If you’re the top technical leader in your organization, it could include the entire technical organization. If you’re a lower-level leader in your organization, the area inside the Agile boundary might include only your teams. Take a look at the figure below for an example.
